KHQ.COM - Keith Levasseur ran the Baltimore Marathon this past Saturday in 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 58 seconds. While it is not the fastest time ever, his performance stands out in another way. Levasseur ran the marathon, all 26.2 miles, in flip flops.
The Baltimore area runner worked out the details for his run with the people at the Guinness Book of World Records. He had to run the whole event wearing the flip flops, "they never fell off," he said, although, "There were times I would have to drive the front of my foot into the ground to re-secure the fit if they started to slide off. There were also a few times my heel would slip to the side, though they never touched the ground."
Levasseur said he was more sore than he has ever been after a marathon and that his friends have asked him if he'll ever run in flip flops again. His response, "a resounding 'no,.'" And if someone breaks his record? "I will simply congratulate them," he says.
Weigh In: Would you ever run in flip flops? Let alone a marathon?
