Jury hits deadlock in Wisconsin starved girl case

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Jurors are telling a judge they're deadlocked in the case of a Wisconsin man accused of starving and torturing his 68-pound, teenage daughter.

The Madison man faces a half-dozen child abuse counts. Jurors began deliberations Thursday afternoon and worked for nearly nine-and-a-half hours.

They spent six hours discussing the case Friday before sending a note to Dane County Circuit Judge Julie Genovese saying they'd reached a unanimous verdict on at least one count but were deadlocked on others and had been since Thursday.

Genovese brought the jury into the courtroom, told them to keep trying and sent them back to the deliberations room.

The girl testified she was kept locked in the basement and denied food.

The man's attorney says she had access to food but chose not to eat.
