Homeowner Takes Out Burglar In Small Town Of St. John

ST. JOHN, Wash. - It all started at 6 a.m Wednesday morning in the small town of St. John when a burglar broke into a home. The burglar said at the time that he was there to take whatever he could from the residents, but he did not feel that his actions warranted being assaulted by the owner as a result. When the homeowner discovered a burglar was inside his home he "secured" the individuals and his wife told 9-1-1 dispatch that they were waiting for deputies to arrive.   Because of the homeowners actions, 47 year old Michael McCarthy is now in the Whitman County Jail. He was booked today and was interviewed by detectives. McCarthy is facing charges of vehicle prowling, malicious mischief, assault and theft.   The homeowner actually tied McCarthy with zip-ties and put the suspect face down in the middle of his garage. It wasn't long before emergency responders arrived to assist. The responders included members of the St. John volunteer fire department and the Whitman County Sheriff's Department.
