MOSES LAKE, Wash. - According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office there was a fire at the
REC plant in Moses Lake Monday morning. We're told that no chemicals were
released and that there was no danger to the public. The fire has since been
STATEMENT FROM REC:
Silicon responded to a report of an incident at its Moses Lake,
Wash. facility. An emergency alarm activated Monday at 9:50am at the
facility. A small fire occurred during maintenance activities that
created a small visible vapor cloud.
The cloud consists primarily of
particulate aluminum oxide, steam and trace quantities of other
impurities including HCL. The cloud has left the property to the north
and is being monitored. No levels of HCL have been detected. REC
Silicon's internal emergency response organization has mobilized and the
situation under control at this time. An all clear has been issued.
