SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Valley Fire Department says they arrested four juvenile suspects responsible for starting 20 fires near Central Valley High School. Altogether the damage cost more than $16,000. All of the fires were started in the early morning, between 1 and 3 AM.
Most of these fires were started in newspaper recycling donation boxes, cardboard recycling bins, dumpsters, and trash cans around Central Valley High School. As the investigation continues there may be other arrests made. All the arrested juveniles were booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Fire Department says a small group of teens were targeting these receptacles because they were mostly out of sight and behind businesses. They would sometimes light as many as 3 fires in one night. In most cases the receptacles were totally destroyed.
Local businesses assisted in the investigations and are advised not to leave cardboard, wood pallets, or other combustible materials against their buildings.
