Fire Destroys Home In Hayden

Northern Lakes Fire District Press Release: 

At 6:43 p.m. on Sunday, January 13 Northern Lakes Fire District emergency personnel were dispatched to a possible structure fire at on Dodd Road in Hayden.  A passerby noted heavy smoke exiting the approximately 2,000 square foot home but no flames visible and called 911.  Units arrived at 6:54 p.m. to a fully involved, two story home and a second alarm was called.  Due to the extensive fire involvement in the home it was determined that efforts would be to protect nearby exposures including a large propane tank.

Due to no hydrants in the immediate vicinity, water tenders arrived to provide additional water.  Crews from Northern Lakes, Coeur d'Alene, Timberlake, Spirit Lake, and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue assisted.  The home was a total loss with heat damage to nearby trees minimal heat damage to outbuildings.

At the request of the homeowners, we are not providing names and address at this time.  The owners had been notified initially by a monitored alarm service and arrived shortly after crews arrived.  The owners and their young children were away from the home at the time.  No injuries were reported to personnel or pets.  According to the owner, the home was insured and arrangements have been made for housing for the family.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Crews terminated command at 11:58 p.m. and the property was released back to the homeowners.
