OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Washington state drivers may soon face a fine if they improperly park in spaces reserved for electric vehicles.
The state House approved a bill Friday that would create a $124 penalty for drivers of gas-consuming cars who take up electric-vehicle spaces. Supporters say it's necessary to do because some drivers of electric vehicles who need to recharge are finding some sports are already occupied.
Under the law, electric vehicle charging stations must be marked with a sign.
Drivers of electric vehicles may also face a fine if they park in the dedicated spots and don't connect their vehicles to the charging equipment.
House lawmakers approved the measure 84-12. It previously passed the Senate and now goes to the governor.
