Eastern State Hospital Granted Contingent Accreditation

Washington State DSHS Press Release:

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – Eastern State Hospital officials were notified Monday by the Joint Commission that the state psychiatric hospital has been granted contingent accreditation.

Eastern State Hospital had been placed in preliminary denial of accreditation following a December survey that found immediate threats to patient and staff health and safety.

The Joint Commission recommended contingent accreditation following a hospital visit in late January to review the compliance plan and action steps to resolve the health and safety threats.

The Joint Commission will continue to review the hospital's plan and actions to correct other deficiencies cited in the December survey. The Joint Commission, which accredits hospitals every three years, will conduct additional surveys to ensure Eastern State Hospital remains in compliance with health, safety and patient care standards.

Jane Beyer, Assistant Secretary of Behavioral Health and Service Integration, announced Monday that Connie Wilmot, Eastern State Hospital's Chief Executive Officer has accepted a position with DSHS Home and Community Services in Spokane.  Beyer has appointed Kamal Floura, MD, Eastern State Hospital's Medical Director as the interim Chief Executive Officer while a nationwide search is conducted for a permanent CEO.
