DSHS Not Involved In Door To Door Scam

SPOKANE, Wash. - Be on alert for a door to door scam involving the Washington State Department Social and Health Services.

Tom Heumann reported that he recently had a visitor at his door claiming to be from DSHS and that they needed to update his granddaughter's information. Tom's granddaughter Amber suffers from seizures and DSHS has provided benefits so that Tom can provide her with the proper care.

This person that arrived at his door had a form from DSHS on Amber as well as her social security number.

Tom did not recognize this person and proceeded to ask her to leave. He then contacted DSHS.

DSHS conformed on Friday that they would not ever send someone out to the location of a client unannounced and if they do send someone, the person has to show photo ID and wont ask for personal info because it is already on file.

DSHS is investigating this at the time to try and find out how this person could have gotten Amber's info from their building without working for the company.
