SPOKANE, Wash. - Despite the two recent murders in the West Central neighborhood, many in nearby Kendall Yards feel safe.
Delva Gess says "I felt sad about it but I wasn't worried cause I know they do a lot of patrolling here."
Spokane police in fact are patrolling Kendall Yards more often because of the notorious high crime .
Gess says "I wasn't a bit worried." Referring to her own personal safety.
The nearby C.O.P.S West shop is encouraging neighborhoods to participate in block watch events.
"There is a larger police emphasis patrol in the west central area as it is in a few other parts of the city that have experienced other criminal activity," says Maurece Volcom. "There have been a lot of home break-ins a lot so we do have police emphasis.
The Kendall Yards PUD was approved by the city in 2006.
Construction in the area is continuing.
The latest addition is the courtyard townhomes and the detached homes on the west side of the property.
