SPOKANE, Wash. - Avondre Graham is only 17 years old, but after he attacked and robbed a woman on the Centennial Trail Thursday, he will be tried as an adult. For right now he will only be charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault, although police acknowledge that he may too be connected to the murder of Sharlotte McGill.
This is not Graham's first run-in with the law. In fact, it's not Graham's first run in with the law this year. In February police took him into custody on a domestic violence felony harassment charge. I checked out the court documents today and in those documents one of the officers testified that as he was escorting Graham out of his house in handcuffs Graham yelled quote "When I get out, I'm coming back to kill all of you."
His mom reported in February that her son was getting more depressed and angry. According to court documents, she said Avondre gave her two options, he said, take him to California or he was going to kill himself.
California's also interesting in this case. Graham's uncle lived in California and on Facebook his mother said that her brother served as "a father figure to her boys." That supposed father figure to Avondre Graham died on May 3rd. Sharlotte McGill was murdered on May 3rd.
The day after the McGill murder and the death of her brother (May 49th), Avondre Graham's mother asked her late brother on Facebook to look over her kids and she wrote in part "send me the strength to be a good mom by myself and keep the kids in the right direction."
Her son is now in custody following an assault and robbery of a woman. It turns out he may be connected to the murder of Sharlotte McGill, too.
