Alleged Naked Burglar Back On The Streets

SPOKANE, WASH. - Trevor Lee Franklin is a level three sex offender who was convicted of third-degree assault in March of last year for beating his then-girlfriend who also accused him of raping her and forcing her to smoke methamphetamine, but his most recent arrest came for allegedly breaking into an apartment in Browne's Addition. What makes this case bizarre is how he got the nickname the "naked burglar." The tenants of a Browne's addition apartment saw him naked outside, his clothes were inside and their apartment was ransacked.   Now a little more than a week after his arrest he's back out of jail, according to the judge, because of the 72 hour rule. Judge Triplet said he never received any paperwork and charges weren't formally filed, which they need to be within 72 hours or the inmate gets released. KHQ spoke with Spokane Police Spokeswoman Jennifer DeRuwe and she said the police did not complete their investigation within the window. They were investigating the possibility that he was tied to more crimes where burglars broke into homes naked, which for some reason has happened more than once in the past month.   They did determine it was an isolated incident, but the naked burglar, at least from Browne's Addition, is back on the streets tonight.
