5 teens charged in Philly with raping girl, 12

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police in Philadelphia say they have arrested five teenagers accused of raping a 12-year-old girl at a busy recreation center.

Authorities wouldn't identify the suspects because they are juveniles, all 14 or 15 years old. Police said Thursday that the teens have been charged with rape, simple assault and other offenses.

The girl told police she was approached Monday night by several boys who started talking to her at a city recreation center in the Kingsessing neighborhood.

Investigators say the boys then lured the girl to an upstairs stairwell and attacked her.

The rec center was busy that night with line dancing and basketball. Police say a staff member went to the stairwell after seeing several boys running from the area and found the distraught girl.
