Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan marries

Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan married Clay Pell on Saturday in Providence, R.I., People reports.

Kwan, 32, wore an ivory Vera Wang gown and Pell, 31, a JAG and Lieutenant in the the U.S. Coast Guard, wore his full dress uniform. Olympic champions Brian Boitano, Dick Button and Dorothy Hamill were among the 240 guests.

Michelle Kwan is engaged

Emotions got the best of Kwan, who cried as she walked down the aisle and spontaneously kissed Pell before the officially scheduled time. The couple got engaged in September after meeting in April 2011.

Kwan, a two-time Olympic medalist and five-time world champion, incorporated her Olympic swan song "Fields of Gold" into her wedding program. After retiring in 2002, Kwan is now a senior advisor for public diplomacy and public affairs. Pell is director of strategic planning on the National Security staff at the White House.
