Miss New York crowned the new Miss America

Miss New York Mallory Hytes Hagan was named the new Miss America Saturday in Las Vegas.

Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers placed second, followed by Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, who came in third. Miss Wyoming Lexie Madden took fourth and Miss Iowa Mariah Cary completed the top 5. The competition made news this year when a contestant who has autism, Miss Montana Alexis Wineman, was one of 16 semifinalists.

Hagan, 23, tap-danced to James Brown's "Get Up Off That Thing" for the talent portion of the competition and answered a question about armed guards in schools in the Q&A portion. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native's platform is child sexual abuse prevention, and she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in hopes of obtaining a degree in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing.

She won a $50,000 scholarship as well as a crown.
