Michelle Williams is taking a big step -- at least when it comes to her hair.

The 32-year-oz Oz the Great and Powerful actress revealed that she is starting to grow out her short hair. "I think I'm ready," the 32-year-old star told E! News. "It's on its way, slowly but surely."

Williams first debuted her pixie cut back in May 2010. She revealed in a November 2011 interview with British Elle magazine that she had kept the short 'do in dedication to her late fiancé Heath Ledger, who passed away in January 2008 from an accidental drug overdose. "I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it," she said at the time.

Although she is "ready" for longer locks, Williams says she is not looking forward to the difficult process of actually growing her hair out. "That's why I've stayed with short hair for so long," she said. "The mid-stage is insufferable. It's really hard on your self-esteem."

Fortunately, Williams will have plenty of time to try new looks, as she is taking a hiatus from acting. "I'm really happy to not have anything looming -- except my hair," she joked. "I'm really working on my hair growing out."

Will you miss Williams' short hair? What kind of hair 'do should she try next?
