Michelle Duggar gets new hairdo!

By Liz Raftery,

Michelle Duggar's kids planned a special surprise for their mom's birthday a few weeks ago -- a makeover.

Duggar debuted her new look on a recent episode of 19 Kids and Counting, sporting a sleek, straight hairstyle rather than her usual bangs and curls. Prior to that, Duggar hadn't changed her hair in 40 years, she tells People.Watch clips from 19 Kids and Counting

"Going from curly to totally straight was a shock for me, but I am loving it," Duggar says, adding that she now goes back and forth between the two 'dos.

Duggar apparently wasn't the only one who was taken aback when she first saw herself post-cut. Her husband, Jim Bob, was also "shocked" by the hairstyle, as was their youngest daughter, 2-year-old Josie.

"Little Josie kept touching my hand and saying, 'Mommy? Mommy? Mommy?" Duggar tells People. "She wanted to make sure I was still me."
