Kate Walsh checking out of Private Practice after next 13 episodes

By Kate Stanhope,

Days after the exit of co-star Tim Daly, Private Practice star Kate Walsh will reportedly leave the ABC medical drama after the first 13 episodes of the upcoming sixth season, according to Deadline.
Private Practice will return to its Tuesday timeslot this fall, though for how many episodes is still unclear. Some reports say 13, but ABC declined to comment. After her deal expired at the end of Season 5, Walsh would only sign on for 13 more, according to Deadline.
Could Private Practice earn a 13-episode final season?
Before the show was officially renewed earlier this month, there was heavy speculation that Season 6 would be its last. After four-and-a-half years behind Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice was moved to Tuesday nights this spring so that executive producer Shonda Rhimes' newest drama, Scandal, could follow Grey's.
The only reason given for Walsh's departure was that she is ready to move on. In the Season 5 finale, her character was last seen being proposed to by Sam (Taye Diggs), but it is unknown how she responded.

It is unclear whether Private Practice would continue sans Walsh. The spin-off of Grey's was built around her character, Addison, when she moved from Seattle to Santa Monica. Co-star Daly tweeted earlier this week that his option was not picked up for the new season. His departure followed that of original cast member Audra McDonald last year and Chris Lowell the year prior.
Walsh's reps did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Are you sad Kate Walsh is leaving Private Practice? Do you think the show should go on without her?
