Joan Rivers in hot water over Holocaust joke

By Natalie Abrams,

Joan Rivers caused quite a stir this week, drawing the attention of the Anti-Defamation League after making a joke about the Holocaust on Fashion Police, Gawker reports.

During Monday's post-Oscars episode, Rivers paid Heidi Klum a controversial backhanded compliment. "The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens," the comedian said.

On Wednesday, Anti-Defamation League Director Abe Foxman called Rivers' joke "so vulgar and offensive to Jews and Holocaust survivors, and indeed to all Americans, that we cannot believe it made it to the airwaves."

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Rivers did not apologize for her comment, but instead offered up an explanation. "My husband lost the majority of his family at Auschwitz, and I can assure you that I have always made it a point to remind people of the Holocaust through humor,"  she said.

What do you think of Rivers' joke?
