Lee Dorman, the bassist for the '60s rock band Iron Butterfly has died, The Los Angeles Times reports. He was 70.

Dorman was found dead Friday in a vehicle outside his Laguna Niguel home, according to Orange County sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Krause. She said Dorman may have been on his way to a doctor's appointment when he died. A coroner's investigation performed Saturday found that he died of natural causes.

Iron Butterfly formed in 1966 and recorded one album before Dorman joined the band. The group rose to fame in the late 1960s with its second album, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, which sold more than 30 million copies. The memorable notes from the title track have remained popular in pop culture, having been featured on The Simpsons, That '70s Show and Rescue Me, among others.

The band broke up in the 1970s, at which point Dorman formed a new band -- Captain Beyond -- with Iron Butterfly guitarist Larry Reinhardt.

Dorman, born Douglas Lee Dorman, had long suffered from heart problems.
