Green Day cancels remaining 2012 performances

By Liz Raftery,

Green Day has canceled the rest of its scheduled performances in 2012 and early 2013 in the wake of singer Billie Joe Armstrong checking himself into rehab last month.

"Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern," bassist Mike Dirnt said in a press release on the band's website. "We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon."

The band has scrapped a tour that was supposed to launch on Sept. 26 and stretch through Dec. 10, and also said performances scheduled for January and February will be rescheduled. To partially appease fans, Green Day has moved up the release date of ¡Tré!, the last of its trio of new albums, from Jan. 15, 2013 to Dec. 11.

"We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned," drummer Tré Cool said in the release. "If we couldn't be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."

Visit the band's website for a complete list of canceled/rescheduled performances.
