George Zimmerman: Trayvon Martin's death was "God's plan"

George Zimmerman, the man accused in the murder of Trayvon Martin, says he hopes this experience is the most difficult thing he has to go through in his lifetime. But he wouldn't change what's happened.

In February, Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch coordinator, shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old Martin, who Zimmerman says was behaving suspiciously. Zimmerman claimed self-defense and was charged in April with second degree murder. He pleaded not guilty and is free on bond while awaiting trial.

"When I was in jail, I was in solitary confinement and I had a lot of time to think and reflect," Zimmerman told Fox News' Sean Hannity in his first interview since the shooting." It's a tragic situation and I hope it's the most difficult thing I'll have to go through in my life."

When asked if he could go back and do anything differently on that fateful night, Zimmerman said no. "I feel that it was all God's plan," he said. "I do wish that there was something, anything I could have done that would have put me in the position that I wouldn't have to take his life. I'm sorry that this happened. I hate to think that because of this incident, because of my actions, that it's polarized and divided America."

Zimmerman also offered his condolences to Martin's family. "I am sorry that they buried their child," he said. "I can't imagine what it must feel like. I pray for them daily."
