Former Cincinnati Reds player Ryan Freel found dead of apparent suicide

Former Cincinnati Reds player Ryan Freel was found dead in his home on Saturday from an apparent self-inflicted shotgun wound, ESPN reports. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is treating his death as a suicide.See celebrities we've lost this yearThroughout Freel's eight-year career in Major League Baseball, he played for five teams, most notably the Cincinnati Reds from 2003 to 2008. During a single three-year stretch, Freel stole 110 bases.Freel's career in the majors ended in 2009 when he was hit in the head with a pickoff throw. In June, he was named the St. Joseph Academy's baseball coach but he resigned soon after. Most memorable sports moments of 2012His former Reds teammate Brandon Phillips shared his grief on Twitter: "#RIP to my friend & great teammate #RyanFreel! Really hurt by his passing! You'll  never will be forgotten..."Freel left behind a wife, Christie, and three daughters.
