Eddie Murphy named Most Overpaid Actor in Hollywood

By Sadie Gennis,

Eddie Murphy was once a beloved funnyman, known for his work on Saturday Night Live, Beverly Hills Cop and a slew of family-friendly comedies that even adults would enjoy. But oh, how the mighty have fallen.Has your favorite show been canceled? Check out our fall TV scorecard to find outMurphy has topped Forbes' annual list of the most overpaid actors in Hollywood. The magazine estimates that for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films, the films earned an average of $2.30 at the box office. The numbers aren't that surprising, since Murphy's recent films are a far cry from the blockbusters he used to headline. Meet Dave, A Thousand Words and Imagine That all flopped at the box office, while Murphy's supposed "comeback" film Tower Heist did only marginally better.Murphy placed second last year on Forbes' list behind Drew Barrymore, who fell out of the top 10 this year without any recent releases.Final Season Report Cards: Grading TV's soon-to-be-departed seriesFollowing Murphy, is former box-office rom-com queen Katherine Heigl. The actress made her somewhat shocking debut on the overpaid actors list with the estimated average return of $3.40.Reese Witherspoon comes in third, with an average of $3.90. Another surprise, Sandra Bullock, ranks in fourth with her films earning $5 for every dollar she was paid. Jack Black comes in fifth with an average $5.20 return for every dollar he received.
