Summary Box: Roche cutting jobs, shutting Nutley

By The Associated Press
ROCHE REDUCTIONS: The Swiss drugmaker will close its Nutley, N.J., site, the former U.S. headquarters, by end of 2013 in a money-saving consolidation of research and development programs.
JOB CUTS: Roche will eliminate the remaining 1,000 jobs at Nutley, mostly researchers working on drugs for cancer, arthritis and hepatitis. Those projects will be shifted to other Roche sites or, for less-promising ones, eliminated.
STORIED HISTORY: Over the seven decades Nutley was Roche's U.S. base, it produced tranquilizer Valium, cancer and hepatitis treatment interferon and other big drugs.
