EARNINGS OLYMPICS: Cable company Comcast Corp. more than doubled its third-quarter net income compared with last year, but the bulk of that jump came from one-time effects: the sale of wireless spectrum and a share of the A&E TV channels
GOLD MEDAL: Even excluding the divestitures, Comcast posted strong results, with earnings growing 39 percent and revenue growing 15 percent.
BREAKING EVEN: Comcast's NBC had the U.S. rights to the Olympics, and was expected to lose money on the deal. But in August, it said it would break even, which helped Comcast's results for the quarter.
