BY THE NUMBERS: Alcoa reported a net loss of $2 million, or break-even per share, in the second quarter. The results included one-time items of $63 million. Excluding those, Alcoa would have earned $61 million, or 6 cents per share. Revenue fell 9 percent to $5.96 billion.
PRICE WEAKNESS: Alcoa said the results stemmed from an 18 percent drop in realized aluminum prices from the second quarter of 2011.
WHAT'S NEXT: Alcoa reaffirmed its forecast calling for a 7 percent increase in global aluminum demand this year.
