U.S. stocks posted their fourth straight loss Thursday. Investors worried over the approaching "fiscal cliff," and news about plunging consumer confidence confirmed that many Americans worry that the economy is still struggling.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 18.28, or 0.1 percent, to 13,096.31.
The Standard & Poor's 500 fell 1.73, or 0.1 percent, to 1,418.10.
The Nasdaq composite index fell 4.25, or 0.1 percent, to 2,985.91.
For the week:
The Dow is down 94.53, or 0.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 12.05, or 0.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 35.10, or 1.2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 878.75, or 7.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 160.50, or 12.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 380.76, or 14.6 percent.
