Even though Gerard Butler has mostly played all-American parts in many of his movies, the Scottish-born star was voted 2009 Scot of the Year in a poll this week.
The Press Association reports the sizzling actor, most recently known for his American roles in "The Ugly Truth" and alongside Jennifer Aniston in the upcoming flick "The Bounty Hunter," surprisingly beat out international singing sensation Susan Boyle for the award.
Boyle, of "Britain's Got Talent" stardom, came in second place, with 26 percent of the online ScotsCare vote, while Butler took 66 percent.
"Gerard has certainly proved a popular winner amongst the females," the Scottish not-for-profit organization's chief executive, Willie Docherty, said.
After reportedly getting cozy with Aniston recently at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Hope for Haiti telethon, according to India Today , it seems the Scot is a winner with women worldwide.
And according to OK! Magazine , even other Hollywood celebrities get starstruck when the charming Butler walks into a room.
At the Art of Elysium charity gala in Los Angeles ahead of the Globes, a source told OK!: “All the girls were freaking out ... Sophia Bush was standing next to me, saying, ‘Oh my God, should I say hello?’ She had a couple of friends with her, and told them, ‘If I get to say hello to him, I’ll introduce you.’ ”
And Butler is set to keep the ladies swooning as the Hollywood hunk is set to bare all in a sexy new role as Scottish poet Robert Burns in a flick titled "Burns," according to STV.tv .
Digital Spy reports that director Vadim Jean confirmed Butler's racy new part: "Gerard and I are both totally committed to the film."
