At least 28 people are dead and another 1,500 are stranded following multiple avalanches in Afghanistan.
The Defense Ministry released a statement saying another 70 people have been injured as rescuers continue to dig out hundreds of vehicles stuck on a snow-blocked pass north of Kabul.
The avalanches took place Monday following heavy snows in the Salang Pass that links the Afghan capital with the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
Parwan provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Rahman Sayedkhail said rescuers worked through the night to save more than 200 people.
