(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh is getting heat after he said on his show on Wednesday that buses should be racially segregated.
His comments came in response to an incident in Belleville, Ill., in which two black teens beat up a white teen on a school bus . The attack was initially labeled as racially motivated, but police later backed away from that assessment.
Limbaugh disagreed with the police's conclusion . "I think the guy's wrong. I think not only it was racism, it was justifiable racism. I mean, that's the lesson that we're being taught here today. Kid shouldn't have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses -- it was invading space and so forth. This is Obama's America.
"In Obama's America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering, 'Yay, right on, right on, right on, right on,'" Limbaugh said. "I wonder if Obama's going to come to the defense of the assailants the way he did his friend Skip Gates up there at Harvard."
Limbaugh was referring to the incident in which President Obama said police "acted stupidly" when they arrested black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. for breaking into his own home.
Most readers were shocked by Limbaugh's comments. "This is AWFUL!...What a scumbag!...Kids have been beating each other up on schoolbuses FOREVER," wrote naryaquid on Media Matters . "God almighty, can even the stupid not see through this guy?...He's trying to start a race war, get Obama killed, or both."
Mfinn7314 agreed that Limbaugh was trying to stir the pot . "I am also outraged and even for Limbaugh this crosses a very scary line. The more I thought about these comments, I cannot see how this isn't attempting to fuel some type of race war. Given the context of these comments about black kids beating up on a white kid asserting that it's okay now that this black man is President. He's escalating fear among those who already can't take having a black President and trying to bring others into the same camp."
But Aaronk on ThinkProgress.org passed off Limbaugh's comments as Rush being Rush . "I can’t stand Rush, but I just listened to this clip, and please tell me that you guys realize he is being sarcastic right?...Look, to say that Rush's audience is full of racists, and to say that calling Obama is a liar is racist is just small-minded, petty, idiotic, partisan hackjob tactics. I agree with many of you guys on many things, but I am sure glad that I don't have your hate-filled attitude and paint millions of people whom I don't know with a broad brush of misunderstanding."
