On February 16th, 2009, KAYU turned off its analog
transmitter for good.
People using a digital converter box to receive their signal
should periodically scan to check for clearer signals or additional
stations that can be picked up.
If you are a viewer looking for help in understanding how to
continue to watch over the air television, please call our station

Three years ago, the Federal Government signed into law the
Digital Transition and Public Safety Act which mandated a
mid-February shut off date for full power analog TV stations in the
US.
Over the past several years, stations such as ours have
invested millions and millions of dollars into preparing their
facilities and their viewers for this transition. The enhanced
quality of digital pictures and sound are the significant benefits
to viewers going forward.
Recent polls have confirmed that well over 95% of the public
is well prepared for this transition. As such, KAYU is joining most
of its fellow broadcasters in shutting down on or near the long
time established and publicized date.
At the last moment, the Federal Government chose to change
the analog shutoff date by a few weeks, but it gave stations the
option to remain with the original mid-February date. The Spokane
area stations have overwhelmed their viewers with the message for
more than a year and most were convinced that our viewing public
is, by and large, ready.
